Sheltered water off the village.
Anchor off Bongaree in the lee of Bribie, in easy tender range of the jetty, ramps and cafés. Sand and mud holding, protected from the east by the island. Watch the tidal current running through the passage and set with plenty of scope.
Northern sand point, quiet nights.
The sandy point on the south-eastern side of Bribie, well off the main channel and protected from the west. A local favourite for a settled-weather stay, with clean sand holding and a walk-around foreshore at low tide.
Sunset shelter on the western dunes.
A long stretch of sandy anchorage on the western side of Moreton Island, between Tangalooma and Bulwer. Consistent westerly shelter, sand holding, and dunes rising straight from the beach. Less busy than Tangalooma with the same brilliant sunsets.
The quieter side of Peel.
The south-western bay of Peel Island, sheltered from the north-east and quieter than Horseshoe. Sand holding in clear water, snorkelling on the rock ledges and easy access to the walking track around the island. Watch the marine park zoning — check before you drop.
The top-end of Moreton Island.
A sheltered pocket near the northern tip of Moreton Island, on the run round to Yellow Patch. Sand holding, easy tender to the beach and one of the quietest overnight spots in the bay. Watch the tide and swell wrapping round the top of the island.
Anchor under the ochre dunes.
Anchor off the western side of Yellow Patch in a westerly and settled southerly. Sand holding, clear water and one of the great sunset outlooks on the coast — the dunes glow orange as the sun drops behind the mainland. Exposed in a northerly.
Rainbow Channel classic.
Anchor off Amity in the lee of the point, close enough to tender in for fish and chips. Sand holding with current running through Rainbow Channel — set firmly and back down. Dolphins and dugongs pass through regularly on a good tide.
