The rock walls, sand pump and the pipe run hold bait 12 months a year. Jew, tailor, trevally, tuna and mackerel all pass through. Respect the traffic and the tide — the Seaway is unforgiving on the wrong drift.

Kilometres of sand and weed edges between Wave Break Island and Sovereign Islands. Drift the drop-offs on the run-out tide with a soft plastic and cover ground. Consistent fish for consistent effort.

A short run from the Seaway or Tallebudgera. Winter snapper, sweetlip, pearl perch and the odd cobia. Summer brings pelagics — mac tuna, spotted mackerel and long tail.

Thirty to fifty nautical miles east of the Seaway. Blacks in the height of summer, stripes through winter, mahi mahi on the FADs and yellowfin when the current pushes wide. A serious-boat, serious-weather-window fishery.
